April 4 Program Updates
Greetings to all Participating Contractors! As we move into spring and approach the busy cooling season, we want to share a few quick reminders and training opportunities. Several members of the ICF, RHA and Program Management teams (and some Participating Contractors!) attended the Home Performance Coalition National Conference in Nashville, TN last month. Through several informative sessions, attendees learned about a variety of topics from Mechanical Ventilation to Healthy Home Environments. Program Mentor Judy Rachel presented at the conference, and will be teaching this month's hands-on technical training course for blower door and duct testing. Keep reading below for reminders and updates, and as always reach out to your Account Management team with any questions!
Please note: we are returning to a monthly newsletter format, with distribution around the first of each month. If any critical issues come up, we will send additional email updates. As a reminder, all newsletters and e-blasts are posted to the News and Updates section of the Contractor Website.
SCE/SoCalGas Program UpdatesFinalized/Closed Permit Submission
As a reminder, projects that include HVAC (this includes air conditioning, heat pumps, furnaces and all related fans/components) require a finalized/closed permit to be submitted before projects can receive final approval. To help your project move forward, you can post-retrofit submit your project in the WebApp with all the other documentation and provide the program with the closed permit later in the review process when you receive it. The permit is required before your project can receive final approval.
Reminder: Detailed Invoice Required on All Projects
Participating Contractors are required to supply a detailed invoice that includes all measures being claimed for projects submitted to the Energy Upgrade California Home Upgrade Program. Invoices should be marked "paid in full," show a zero balance owed, or state that the project is being financed by a third-party lender (please provide the name of the lending institution). The project cost should include only measures eligible for incentives in the Home Upgrade Program and their related costs. If your invoice also includes other measures/costs not eligible for incentives in the program, please include a subtotal of the Home Upgrade Program project cost on the invoice.
Customer Satisfaction: Top Performers in the SoCalGas Program
Customer Satisfaction is of critical importance to SoCalGas. We are pleased to recognize the three Participating Contractors who are tied for top Customer Satisfaction Survey score performance to date in 2017:
- Building Doctors
- Home Performance Matters
- SS Salazar Builders, Inc.
Make sure you include the customer's email address for each project submitted to the program so your excellent work can be recognized, too!
Please note that the updates listed for the SCE/SoCalGas program above also apply to the SoCalGas only program.

Join us for this Hands-On Technical Training Session! Basic setup of the blower door and the duct blaster will be covered. Moving beyond the basics - what other tests can be performed utilizing the blower door and duct blaster, such as the Half Nelson and the Air Handler Only tests. What does Duct Leakage to the Outside actually tell us and are we effectively and accurately measuring it? Is there more to the blower door than getting a CFM50 number and what does that number mean anyway? This training session will be tailored to the participants' needs. Bring your curiosity and questions to explore how these two pieces of diagnostic equipment can assist you in creating a comprehensive scope of work. Space is limited, so please be sure to register below if you'd like to attend! BPI BAs will earn CEUs
