January 18 Program Updates

Wednesday, January 18, 2017

To help get back into the swing of things for 2017, the Southern California Edison (SCE)/SoCalGas® Energy Upgrade California® Home Upgrade team has scheduled training courses for you and your staff. Please be sure to join us on January 31 for the first Project Processing training of the year, and don't miss out on the 2017 Program Year Kick-Off event on February 7! Both sessions will highlight the 2017 Program Changes as well as other updates! More information about both of these training courses is noted below.

SCE/SoCalGas Program Updates

Updated 2017 Documentation and Tools

The SCE/SoCalGas program has updated all documentation and systems to reflect the updated changes for 2017. Updated documents are now available on the Contractor Website under Program Resources. Please be sure to cease using old versions of documents, and inform your staff about the updates. PLEASE NOTE: the 2017 documents listed below must be used in all projects going forward:

  • Incentive Application v10 for SCE/SoCalGas
  • Testing by Measure document (for SCE/SoCalGas program Home Upgrade projects)
  • BPI BA Testing Form (for use in both programs)
  • Combustion Appliance Ambient Form (for use in both programs)
  • Home Upgrade Incentive Calculator v2 (for the Joint SCE/SoCalGas program)
  • Advanced Home Upgrade Calculator v7 (for use in both programs)
  • Home Energy Efficiency Assessment Forms (for use in both programs, Home Upgrade projects)
  • QC Tools Calculator (for use in both programs)

QC Tools Calculator Update: Mechanical Ventilation Certification

Do you have a project that requires mechanical ventilation? The new QC Tools Calculator has been updated to include a checkbox in the Air Sealing and Mechanical Ventilation calculator that you must check off to certify that you have installed the required mechanical ventilation for the home. Be sure to upload this new version for projects requiring mechanical ventilation when post-retrofit submitting your project.

Calculator Download Tip

When downloading and opening the program calculators, please be sure to select "Enable Editing" and "Enable Content" to ensure accuracy of the calculated values.

Testing by Measure Update

The Testing by Measure protocol used in the SoCalGas program for Home Upgrade projects is now also offered in the SCE/SoCalGas program!

Under Testing by Measure, pre-retrofit diagnostic testing is no longer required, but is still highly recommended to help offer the best upgrade recommendations to your customers and identify issues that may need to be addressed during construction.

Post-retrofit diagnostic testing requirements are now determined by the measures installed, and are listed in the SCE/SoCalGas Testing by Measure chart available for download from the Contractor Website under Program Documents.

Important Reminders

Senate Bill 1414 (SB1414) Proof of Permit Closure

Proof of closed permit on HVAC retrofits with an air conditioner, heat pump or their related fans is required for all Advanced Home Upgrade and Home Upgrade projects post-retrofit submitted on or after January 1, 2017.  Upload this document with your other project documentation during post-retrofit submission.

Home Energy Efficiency Assessments for Home Upgrade

All Joint Program Home Upgrade projects reserved on or after December 1, 2016 require submittal of a Home Energy Efficiency Assessment at post-retrofit. You may use the program-created document (available for download from the SCE/SoCalGas Program Documents, Project Processing Documents tab), or you may create your own custom report that captures this information and is pre-approved by your Account Manager. Advanced Home Upgrade projects can continue to use the modeling software's report or a custom report approved by your Account Manager.

If you have any questions about these program requirements, please contact your Account Management team.

SoCalGas Updates

Updated 2017 Documentation and Tools

The SoCalGas program has also updated all documentation and systems to reflect the updated changes for 2017. Updated documents are now available on the Contractor Website under Program Resources. Please be sure to cease using old versions of documents, and inform your staff about the updates. PLEASE NOTE: the 2017 documents listed below must be used in all projects going forward:

  • Incentive Application v10 for SoCalGas/LADWP
  • Incentive Application v10 for SoCalGas-only (other municipal electric utility)
  • BPI BA Testing Form (for use in both programs)
  • Combustion Appliance Ambient Form (for use in both programs)
  • Home Upgrade Incentive Calculator v2 (for the SoCalGas program)
  • Advanced Home Upgrade Calculator v7 (for use in both programs)
  • Home Energy Efficiency Assessment Forms (for use in both programs, Home Upgrade projects)
  • QC Tools Calculator (for use in both programs)

Please note that the SoCalGas Home Upgrade Calculator requires that you select an option from a dropdown list if the electric utility provider is Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) or another municipal electric provider, as well as whether the project will be a Historic Building Energy Efficiency Program (HBEEP) project. Selecting the appropriate responses will allow the Calculator to provide you with the correct incentive amount.

Healthy Home Evaluator (HHE) Certification

Through the Building Performance Institute (BPI), you may now receive the Healthy Home Evaluator (HHE) certification. This certification is designed to help those who work in home performance, weatherization and the healthy housing industries conduct assessment in homes that may contain conditions which would negatively affect the health and safety of the occupants. By obtaining this certification, BPI Building Analysts can add more value to their home performance assessment for customers. Learn more about HHE certification here

Welcome back and Happy New Year! We hope you and your families enjoyed the holidays and were able to spend time with one another. As we look forward in 2017, we have many new and exciting things coming to the program! From updated program changes to new training courses we hope to continue to help your customers save money and energy and earn available incentives on eligible upgrades made to their home!

SCE/SoCalGas Program Updates

Thank you to all of the Participating Contractors who attended the Whole House Healthy Comfort Energy Sellutions event on December 8 with guest speaker Drew Cameron. We hope you learned valuable and innovative sales techniques and we look forward to seeing how you will implement them into your businesses.

Energy Modeling Software Updates

Snugg Pro

Snugg Pro has recently integrated the Department of Energy's (DOE) Home Energy Score (HES). This new integration lets you obtain a Home Energy Score without ever leaving Snugg Pro.

Snugg Pro's Home Energy Score integration is available out of the box at no extra charge for users nationwide.  You will need a DOE assessor ID to get started. To learn how to obtain a DOE assessor ID, please visit the Better Buildings website.

CakeSystems

Effective immediately, the following program values are to be used in all CakeSystems energy models:

  • Clothes Washer/Washing Machine: Choose the "standard" option in the dropdown menu
  • Refrigerator type: Choose the "bottom freezer" option in the dropdown menu
  • Refrigerator Model Year: Choose the '93-'00 option in the dropdown menu

Note: When the program specifies required values all models are required to use these values. Please continue to follow program guidance on all other values unless otherwise noted. If incorrect values are submitted the corrected program values will be updated in the submitted energy model, which may have an effect on your estimated incentive. If you have any questions or are unsure of the guidance you have received from your modeling software vendor, please consult the Program Updates guidance here or check with your Account Management team to ensure you have used the correct values.

Updated 2017 Documentation and Tools
