Course Components

Step 1: Complete the Online Program. Developed by a team of BPI Super Proctors, the online program allows you to study at your own pace without missing additional days of work. By completing the online program in advance of the in-person instruction, you'll be equipped with the fundamentals necessary to ensure your success.

Step 2: Classroom Instruction. Led by one of our approved BPI instructors, your classroom instruction time will be spent reviewing mathematical formulas, technical standards, and BPI protocols. You'll also have the opportunity to ask questions pertaining to your at-home training and exercises. In addition, a review of learning materials and practice quizzes will help prepare you for the BPI written exams.

Step 3: Attend Field Training. During your three full days of field training (some courses may be longer), detailed instruction on how to use the following equipment will be covered:

  • Blower Door and Digital Manometer
  • Combustible Gas Leak Detector
  • Combustion Analyzer
  • Carbon Monoxide Meter
  • Exhaust Fan Flow Meter
  • Static Pressure Probe
  • Air Leakage Smoke
  • Pressure Pan

Step 4: Complete the BPI Written Exam. The week immediately following your field training, you will be required to complete a two-hour, 100 question multiple-choice written exam provided by BPI. Before the examination, a BPI Super Proctor will provide a 90-minute review and answer any questions you may have.

Step 5: Complete the BPI Field Exam for Certification. Part of your BPI Certification process includes a two-hour field exam inside a residential home. The field exam will take place the week immediately following your field training, in the same home in which your field training took place. All test equipment necessary for the field exam will be provided for you.
